District 1 is a community built on families, history, and resilience.

But our neighborhoods deserve more than promises — we deserve leadership focused on real solutions, responsible growth, and results we can see.

Demetris Harrison believes leadership means showing up, listening carefully, and delivering for the people who call District 1 home.

Strong neighborhoods don’t happen by accident — they happen through leadership that shows up.

Demetris Harrison’s vision for Jacksonville is rooted in service, accountability, and opportunity. He believes city leadership should reflect the people it serves, focused on results, not rhetoric. His priorities center on empowering communities, improving the systems that keep the city running, and expanding opportunities for every resident to thrive.

VISION & PRIORITIES

1

Fix the Basics

We can’t wait for help to arrive — we need dependable infrastructure now. That means:

  • Roads that don’t flood

  • Sidewalks that connect

  • Drainage systems that work

2

Safer Neighborhoods Together

Public safety is a priority — and it works best when:

  • Police are responsive

  • Communities are part of the solution

  • Prevention and collaboration go hand in hand

3

Humane, Practical Homeless Solutions

People without homes deserve dignity — and neighborhoods deserve safety and access. Effective solutions balance care with public space needs.

4

Balanced Growth + Opportunity

As District 1 grows, we must bring businesses that:

  • Create stable jobs

  • Respect neighborhood character

  • Support residents’ needs

Demetris Harrison is a Navy veteran, community servant, and longtime Arlington resident. After being stationed in Jacksonville in 1994, he made this city his home. For more than 30 years, he’s shown up — volunteering with food banks, veterans’ programs, and community groups — not just talking about change, but helping build it.

Demetris has served in public roles and understands what it takes to make government work for people — not just process. He believes leadership should be measured by results, not rhetoric.
