Demetris Harrison is a Navy veteran, a dedicated public servant, and a bold voice for change—running to represent District 1 on the Jacksonville City Council. After being stationed here in 1994, Demetris fell in love with this city and made it his permanent home. Over the past 30 years, he’s rolled up his sleeves and gotten to work—from volunteering with food banks and veterans’ programs to leading community efforts that lift up working families. Now, he's stepping up to bring real leadership, accountability, and vision to City Hall.
From Service to City Hall
From the U.S. Navy to Jacksonville’s Tax Collector’s Office—Demetris understands what it means to serve with discipline, heart, and purpose. He’s led major operations, balanced tough budgets, and delivered results for our city, all while building bridges and standing up for those too often left behind. His leadership style is grounded in honesty, unity, and action—qualities our local government sorely needs.
His commitment to community is more than words. He’s volunteered with organizations like Feeding Northeast Florida, United Way, Groundwork Jacksonville, CHIPS, and the Mayor’s Military and Veterans Affairs Committee. Whether expanding food access, advocating for veterans, or ensuring families receive the tax assistance they need, Demetris shows up, rolls up his sleeves, and gets to work.
